gleEFA: Emerson Fights AIDS

The Emerson Fights Aids (EFA) Cabaret is an annual event where Emerson students come together to produce a cabaret to benefit the Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS (BCEFA) fund. "Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS is the philanthropic heart of Broadway. Your support provides meals and medication, health care and hope to those in all 50 states, Puerto Rico, and Washington, D.C., affected by HIV/AIDS and other life-threatening illnesses." BCEFA originally started as two separate groups, Equity Fights AIDS, which was founded in October 1987 by the Council of the Actors’ Equity Association, and Broadway Cares, which was founded in February 1988 by members of The Producers’ Group. In May of 1992, these groups came together to make BCEFA. Since then, they have raised over 300 million dollars for essential services for people living with HIV/AIDS, struggling with COVID-19, and facing other critical illnesses.  MTS has been hosting EFA for over 20 years and has raised over $50,000 for BCEFA over its many events and fundraising efforts. EFA has been an opportunity for the Performing Arts department and Emerson as a whole to raise awareness and money for a cause close to our hearts. We have gone through many themes and many performers, but the purpose of EFA has always stayed the same: to raise money and bring people together.
